A few thots from a fellow allergy sufferer:
- You've tried nasal steroids I gather? Some work better than others. Rhinocort is no longer being made so I was switched to Nasacort (not the AQ) Stronger - works as well with fewer sprays. Takes a number of weeks to work.
- Allergy shots are less than perfect, but they have helped me immensely over the years.

- Montelukast (sp?) has just been approved for allergies - has been used for asthma for a few years. Apparently not everyone responds to it, but when it works it can be dramatic. Not dramatic for me - but seems better. Also takes a few weeks to work.
- The HEPA filter in the bedroom, pillow and mattress covers that block allergens, and washing sheets and mattress pad regularly in hot water also helps.
- Your description of your response to weaning off Pred is interesting. Depersonalization and low energy and hollow feellings all sound like things associated with depression to me. It is very possible that Prednisone affects depression/ mood disorders/ neurotransmitters. There is also a rebound effect if the taper is too quick. Anti-depressants have helped my energy level as much as treating the allergies and OSA.
- I have been taking Provigil for the last few months with definite improvement in my level of function during the day (for hypersomnia).
Hope something in all this helps! I am also still struggling with the constant tiredness, but it has improved some with all the above.
Good luck!
