Feedback & Comments from a Newbie

First, I have to say thanks to everyone for their postings. It has been a great help as a new CPAP user to see everyone's comments, good and bad. Please keep it up.

To those who have had bad experiences, I want to offer a few words of encouragment.

I was recently diagnosed with OSA after knowing something was going wrong with my sleeping for over 20 years but knowing nothing about OSA. My sleep study revealed an average of 1 respiratory event per minute over an 8 hour period, oxygen levels averaging 72% with a low point of only 54%, and only 5 hours of actual sleep with no REM activity. Needless to say, I was shocked at how bad it was. It has been a struggle for me to maintain an active exercise program at the gym and to simply stay awake during the day.

I received my CPAP machine and Breeze headgear last Friday. So far, I've made it through 5 straight nights of usage with all the major issues everyone else has encountered: sore nose, dry nasal passage and throat, water dripping from nose, poor sleep, etc. But, I have reached a point already at which I can tell that I have more energy during the day, am less groggy in the morning and no snoring at all during the night (my wife is VERY happy about that!). I am really surprised in hindsight how much energy I was lacking due to OSA -- If I get much more energy, I'll be bouncing off the walls during the day! It is already so much easier to actually make it to the gym and workout.

My point is: Regardless of how bad off were before CPAP, how many short term issues you are fighting now in adjusting to CPAP, etc, STICK WITH IT. I can promise you that will start to feel better and it will be worth it in the end --- I can already see that after only 5 nights. Your will feel more energized, your significant other will also feel better, and you will helping your overall physical and mental well-being in ways none of us may actually realize until much later.

STICK WITH IT & GOOD LUCK TO ALL.
