Chin straps tend to be too 'cutesy' rather than effective and tend to slip off the top of my head rather than stay in place.

Yes, ace-bandages are often used despite their various porosities, but the goal is to wrap it in such a manner that when your muscles relax as you sleep the chin will not move enough. I used Ace bandages and found them ineffective. Others have used them effectively.

Tape can be irritating to the skin or annoying to the individual but I find that despite these drawbacks it works for me most of the time.

The guiding principle is that venting air from the cpap into the bedroom doesn't do much good for you, so whatever is necessary to cease the mouthbreathing, do it.
