Should you be ignoring your doctors advice about a sleeping aid? Insomnia can be a serious condition also. The sleep specialist in question will almost certainly understand the issues surrounding the use of the particular hypnotic they have prescribed and it's effect on sleep disordered breathing. The sleep disordered breathing that you report is sub-clinical in severity and could possibly resolve with weight loss anyway. Try discussing these fears you have with the specialist so that you undersatnd their reasoning.
