Q's before my titration study 3/28

Posted by mk on March 18, 2003 at 14:17:47:

I had my first PSG in mid-November, but for various reasons won’t have my titration study until 3/28. I’ve been reading here for a while and have learned a lot (THANKS!), but as my 2nd PSG approaches I’m getting a little nervous, mainly because if it has taken some ? most ? of you weeks to months to figure out the equipment, set-up, etc., that work best for you, how can I EVER hope to get a good night’s CPAPped sleep on my "first try"? I’m not nervous about the study itself now that I’ve done it once - just about getting a decent night’s sleep (and thus good results and accurate pressure level info) … Any advice or thoughts on this?

Two other short related questions:

1) At my first study they had me briefly try on a mask in case they would need to do a split-night study (which, obviously, they didn’t). If I remember right, they had only the (Ultra?) Mirage and the NasalAire, and the tech specifically discouraged me, as a newbie, from trying the NasalAire (but I don’t remember the reason he gave). I’ve read a lot of good things here about the NA – might that be more comfortable my first night than a nasal mask? Thoughts?

2) At that first study the tech mentioned that a humidifier was available, but that they probably wouldn’t start me off with it, and if they did turn it on for me at some point it would just be cold (“passover”, right?) and not heated. Now I'm wondering - should I insist on starting my titration study with heated humidification, or should I just go by their apparent “wait and see” process? I don’t typically have nasal problems/allergies, etc.

Thanks!
Mary
