I don't have a humidifier although there have been a couple of nights where I wish I had one.
If you are breathing through your nose, I'm not sure why a humidifier is so important. If your mouth is open, a huge amount of drying air passed over your nose and throat.
But, if your mouth is closed the volume of air is not that great. You breathe in and out the same amount as without the cpap. The pressure is relatively static to "inflate" your throat tissues.
