Let’s see if I understand this. What we need is a flow generator with a backpressure sensor that creates a feedback signal to the flow generator. This signal would ramp up the output pressure (to the mask) in direct response to the severity of the apnea event. This response would provide just enough pressure to open the airway and then revert back to some flow level (constant?) for exhalation and to purge CO2 for hypercapnia prevention. It would also have to be “smart” enough to know when the mask is leaking or removed before shutdown.
In addition to storing data for review isn’t this what an Autopap does or am I missing something? If so, it sounds like the perfect machine. I wonder why my sleep doctor reacted negatively to the Autopap machines? Does high pressure, say greater than 12 cmH2O, eliminate usage of the Autopap machines?
