CPAP Works

Posted by awake_mk on March 19, 2003 at 17:15:57:

I'm nearing the one-year mark of my CPAP treatment. I'm so incredibly happy with the results that I've had and how my life has been dramatically restored.

I came here and posted as sleepymk and poured out my troubles and many helpful people here helped me out. I'd like to thank you all. At that time I was struggling with homework and failing my classes (I'm a college student) due to extreme sleepiness. My energy levels were extremely low, even after 12-15 hours of sleep a night.

The difference between then and now is like night and day. I'm now on the honors list; I have a regular sleep schedule and I wake up and feel refreshed after 8 hours of sleep; I once again have the endurance to run 8-10 miles three times a week. On top of that, I have so much more time for friends, etc since I have all the extra hours of the day I used to spend sleeping.

I'd like to thank all of you again, including Sandman for setting up such a great site. I hope my story will give hope to some of you who have just started.

I had a lot of problems when I started treatment. My pressure was changed three times in within three months. I had to be re-titrated. I tried many different masks and three different humidifiers before finding a good setup and one where I kept my mask on. It wasn't fun, but the benefits of perseverance have paid off.

- an awake and happy mk
