The ENT I saw was not even a sleep disorders specialist. I now have an appointment with an ENT at Children's Hospital, but it's not until April 15th. I think that your idea about seeing a doctor who understands childhood apnea is a really good one.
My daughter is so exhausted in the mornings now that she's not even going to school. The school filed a report with child protective services on me for her truancy and on her as well. She now has a probation officer and is required to go to school at all cost. The P.O. is understanding, but is terrified for her own job - she could be sanctioned for not sending my daughter to jail. The judge reminded me that she can remove her from my custody.
In the meantime, I've been following the pediatrician's advice to treat her for insomnia. She says the benadryl is helping her fall asleep a little faster and she feels a little better in the morning, but she's still sleep 12 to 15 hours and not going to school.
I just don't see why it's such a big deal to just take the tonsils and adenoids out. Her pediatrician feels the same way. Hopefully Children's Hospital will help.
The waiting is agonizing because at any time they could decide to incarcerate her because she's not going to school anyway. In jail they'd make her get up at the same time every day. If it's apnea, it could hurt her. If it's insomnia, it could cure her. ARGGGH. The strain is taking a real toll on me. I'll feel like I'm alone out on a limb.
Thanks for your words of encouragement and advice. You don't know how much I cling to it. The stress is taking a real toll on me.
