Generally speaking, I believe insurers will buy the machine rather than continue to sink money into renting it. But I never received any billing notifications from either my insurer or Apria regarding my CPAP. From my dealings with them I assume Apria just dropped the ball and forgot to bill it.

If I were you I'd just wait till you go on the new insurance and get your new mask from whatever DME they use. From what I've read here it is usual for insurers to cover new mask, hoses, etc. every six months. I don't believe you need a prescription for these items.
