I was fortunate enough to find some doc's/techs that were of very good repute and really knocked everything down to bare bones because of my situation. The sleep study--I can mention--was only $600.00. I'm not sure if that was discounted or not. The doc assured me that the same study in an institution would be as much as $1,800.00 or more. I wound up going to a Medicare Certified Sleep center. This is not just the normal certification process from Medicare. They made sure the facility was up to and exceeded Medicare's standards as well as maintaining that standard both technically and personnel-wise.
DME= ??? New to the term, but I take it that it is the local Medical Supply store. My experience was this: The day I got my titration test--I was changed! My father even said he could tell by the sound of my voice on the phone (at 9 am no less!--never happens!) that he noticed a significant change in energy level. This was enough for him to go out and buy what was at the local Med Center. The price was $950.00+ Tax (alledgedly down from $1,200.00). When I told my sleep specialist that, she whinced --BIG TIME! So I looked on the I-net for the same model and accessories. I found it for $400.00. I took it back and waited for my sleep specialist to come up with one. I'll be getting a very good F&P model for less than half the price of retail (I'm told). Then again, I'm unemployed and not insured.
The model that my father bought me was a good model, but I noticed that the shipping label said "Please deliver by April 2, 2002". It was a RemStar LX Plus old stock. I checked a few other places on the I-net and found the local Med Center's price was too high. The local Med Center did NOT want to negotiate. They had models that they rented. I figured that they could take the loss based on the fact that the rentals go for $150/mo. or more and the cost of the machine was only $400.00.
That's my story and I'm sticking by it.
