Substitute cpap for auto cpap?

My wife was prescribed an auto cpap for apnea events during rem phase (I think) only. She may be elegible for a cpap without charge, but would have to buy an auto cpap. Of course the auto cpap would probably be easier to adjust to, but are there any likely harms in her using the regular cpap?
