Your doctor has to write a prescription specifically for an auto-titrating CPAP machine and the script should include an upper and lower pressure limit. This is usually how it works. If you are new to CPAP therapy, I would recommend you or the doctor's office then take this (send it) to a local service provider, known as a DME (Durable Medical Equipment) and have them set you up on a machine for a trial period. Do not go directly on the internet to buy an auto-CPAP machine if you are a newbie to this subject, unless money is no object. You could find you get a model that doesn't quite read you well.
There are some exceptions to this newbie rule for internet purchases. Some in outlying areas may not have access to any DME provider that can set a patient up with an auto-CPAP machine.
The subject of which auto-CPAP machine is best for you is the topic of many, many postings on this and previous forums. The debate is almost too big to start over again. Use the search feature on this website and the key words "auto CPAP" or any of the specific model names (as key words) to find what you're looking for. The big problem with auto-CPAP's is that not all models work well for all patients. That's why I mention the trial period with a local DME.
I'm sure you'll get some replys to your post mentioning a specific model. That's fine, but also do some research on this forum (previous forums).
And another thing, even if you get your prescription for an auto-CPAP, your insurance may not pay for an autopap. There are many postings on this subject as well.
About which models have a good history of "working well"...if you mean breakdown rates, I think most models on the market are good for at least five years without too much worry. About the subject of working well for patients as therapy, this is the debate I mention above. Do your search homework and see what you can come up with.
Good luck, Chris
