What makes you think that he needs BiPAP? The usual reasons are (1) a very high prescription (generally over 15cmH2O), (2) Central Sleep Apnea, (3) Other known respiratory diseases, and (4) Trouble exhaling as demonstrated during titration at a sleep lab.
Whether or not he needs BiPAP, he probably needs a heated humidifier. You may want to consider one of the models with a built-in heated humidifier. These models do not cost any more that the combined price of a CPAP and a humidifier.
