Confused about apnea

Posted by Lazy Suzan on July 30, 2003 at 07:12:15:

Hi everyone...I'm hoping someone might have some suggestions for my problem. I have had a sleep study and pulse oximetry test in the past year and both came out negative for apnea. However, there are certain times, especially when falling asleep, that I awake startled and feel like I'm not breathing. Eventually I fall asleep and can usually manage to sleep a few hours during the night. I have a crowded oropharynx and very low soft palate which the doc said are risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea. Can the sleep study be wrong? Am I going crazy? Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. Also, I have normal tension glaucoma and am worried that this breathing problem is making it worse. Thanks
