Jake, Your comments have helped me. You, Rebecca and I (and a couple of ohers) seem to be on the same train. Since I last posted, I have started with an aPap. When first diagnosed I had no apnea/hypopnea. They have now developed. The last sleep study showed 7/hr AI, 0 HI. The initial aPAP data shows AI = 2/hr, HI = 9/hr. I am still learning the criteria for those numbers but it seems they would be correct. I think the home numbers are probably more reliable than the study results for a lot of reasons. But it wouldn't tell anything about fragmentation or UARS as I understand it. I was titrated (prior to aPap)at 6 cm H2O for apnea. The aPap at 6 min. 10 max. So far the machine median pressure is 10 cm. Obviously a lot of work to do. And there is some restless leg things which will need to be addressed in the future.

I have not helped you, but I can assure you the problem is not minor. My machine results reinforce sleep study results and indicate a more severe problem. I have read that our type of problems can be precursors to OSA and hypopneas which are worse because of the O2 desaturation. I keep reminding myself that UARS was only recognized in the (mid?) 90's so there may a general lack of knowldege. I saw a VERY recognized specialist who dismissed all my sleep issues as depression. I found one finally who listens. Hang on pal!
