The sleep study can definitely be wrong. I've had two studies so far, in two different hospitals. The first said no apnea, just snoring. The second (about a year later) said severe OSA. Admittedly, I was 15 pounds heavier the second time (I had lost weight for the first one, but now regret that). Go figure.

My guess is that there is a significant natural variation in the severity of apnea from night to night. Some of the factors are obvious (congestion, decrease of muscle tone due to alcohol use), but others are probably more mysterious, or even random. My quest to understand these factors is has led me to construct my own "budget" home sleep study.

I'm not sure what to recommend here, but do consider a second (third?) study.

Best of luck!
