drawbacks are that there is no way of knowing before using whether the machine will treat you adequately and some doctors tend not to question the machine, thinking it will be right.I received very inadequate treatment from an autopap and it created great problems for me, including inducing periodic limb movement disorder because I was receiving a very inadequate pressure and hence had very long hypopneas. so, I use my pricey gadget as a fixed cpap. It does have the advantage of providing additional data. However, I now query the accuracy of that, because after testing on a manometer, the reading on my screen and from my downloads on one occasion was totally inaccurate and not reflecting great fluctuations in pressure. My personal opinion is that no-0ne should use an autopap without having a very good idea of their titration pressure fixed from an overnight study. Without that, the wide open window system just creates poroblems for too many people. And my experience was that the tech support from the company that made my machine was really dangerously uninformed. So, I'm not a fan. Unless you're on a very high pressure, I think they are overrated and risky until the companies are forced to give specific information on what is currently commercial in confidence information ie what specifically it will and will not treat. Just my personal experience. My sleep doc regards me as a garden variety ordinary sleep apneac by the way, I have no particular oddities in breathing or sleep patterns other than apneas.
