I certainly agree that a sleep test is far preferable,in most cases, to using an AutoCPAP wide open.

My recommendation would usually be to start with a window of about 2 cm above and below your prescribed pressure. In my case, I've narrowed that range to about 3 cm, which seems to work well for me.

There is significant discussion in the archives about why a narrow window works better than running an AutoCPAP at its maximum settings.

Having said that, I think an AutoCPAP is a great improvement over a fixed pressure machine. I'm sorry you had such bad results with yours.
