I don't think that they can rule out a connection with OSA. Therefore, as far as I can tell, it is a ligitimate topic.

I would add to use an electric toothbrush to the list. I really don't see anything wrong with mouthwash as far as making the problem any worse. Also, it may be from a personal reaction you have to a particular foodstuff, perhaps one not commonly associated with these problems.

If you're not using a heated humidifier, or are only using a passive one, use a heated humidiifer. A CPAP can dry your sinus in the same way that s hairdryer can dry your hair. Dry irratated sinuses can make CPAP very uncomfortable, and possibly be responsible for bad breath.
