Starting Mirtazapine tonight...

First a quick overview... I just got back from my sleep specialist and I've been diagnosed with ideopathic chronic insomnia based on my sleep study results. My sleep architecture was fragmented by 49 spontaneous arousals and 6 respiratory arousals (I had 2 CSA, 1 OSA, and 7 OSH occurances is this anything to be worried about? Doctor said no but I'm still unsure). I also spent only 10% in Stage 3/4 sleep and 15% in REM, while spending 10% in Stage 1 and 65% in Stage 2. No PLMS, no snoring, oxygen levels were mostly around 95% although for 10 min I was around 85% (oddly not during my apneas and hypopneas).

The doctor seems to believe that my insomnia is being caused by an unknown disposition to lack of sleep or perhaps it may have been started by some form of stress early in my life that has been causing a snowball effect of not being able to relax during the night. Or something to that effect if I can remember correctly!

So for treatment he has prescribed me Mirtazapine... Can anyone share their experiences with this drug and did it help? I believe it also goes under the name Remeron.

Thanks! Jeremy
