I've been using PLs for about 4 years and never has the forehead piece broken. Have you tried one of the venors on the sleep mall to see if you can get just that part? I generally get between 4 and 8 months use out of the PL before the gel completely dies. I don't know what makes the difference but some seem to last longer. Periodically I get leaks that might whistle. Also keep in mind that the mask can be remolded just like when its new. I have found that the new vent in the elbow does tend to whistle badly from condensation. I tried using insulation to stop it but it didn't work. Whenever I get a new mask I replace the elbow with an old one that has the whisper vent that exhausts down the hose instead of out the elbow.
