Lots of reasons to retain water. They range from trivial to life threatening. Call and ask his staff to find out for you why he checked, what he thought about it, and what if anything you should do.

One possibility - severe sleep apnea is known to be linked somehow with congestive heart failure - which can be the cause of water retention.
