Okay, first thing... calm down!!!!

I'm not quite sure exactly what you meant when you say you couldn't breath and were claustrophobic....

Was this with the mask hooked up and the air blowing? If so, it could just be that there was not sufficient air pressure yet. I had this problem at my sleep study. The mask made mouth breathing impossible, yet there wasn't enough air comeing through my nose to make things work. I was very uncomfortable until they upped the pressure high enough to where I could breath.

Or was it the putting on of ANY mask, before even being hooked up to the air? If this is the case then it is an entirely different issue. Some will say "Just deal with it", but from where you're at and what you're feeling that isn't as easily done as it is for them to say it!
There are calming techniques one can use before attemping to put on a mask. Or there is the option of counselling to find out if there is a subconcious reason for your problem. Unfortunately, I don't know much about either of theese!!! The good news is that someone here does and will share their knowledge with you!

For now take comfort in the knowledge that you ar enot alone. Somone here has gone through the same thing.
