I don't think it's so much that people in this forum are dead set against surgical options. But it does make us wonder why, when a persons first experience with CPAP is negative, some peoples first reaction is to toss the surgical option at them.
Everybody seems to agree, even surgeons, that you start treating OSA with CPAP. Surgury is an option that is not rushed into, and it is definetly not something you put more weight on just because a person had an initial bad reaction to CPAP. A newbie is confused enough as it is. There is no need to further add to the confusion by suggesting that surgery might be for them. It puts the notion in their head that one nights bad experience constitutes a fair shake at giving CPAP a chance. It doesn't.
I think to be fair, honest, and helpfull, suggestions of surgery ought not come until a person has tried CPAP and had it fail.
