Although I am an advocate of fixing the problem instead of the band-aid approach, I don't mean to imply that surgery is always the solution. I have always said that people should give cpap a real try, not just a one night shot. As in my case, I tried nightly for two years before I gave up on it. If I would have started changing doctors and doing some personal investigation after a few weeks, I could have been a lot better off. The positive is that surgical techniques did make a lot of great advancements in the years I spent looking for answers. CPAP is not the great cure that people seem to think it is. Yes, it does work for a lot of people. Yes, surgery is in the same boat; it doesn't work for everyone but each year more and more advancements are being made in procedures and success rates are going up. Wouldn't you put up with a few days of pain and discomfort to not have to deal with the mask and the "aquarium pump"? It is just another option.
