New CPAP user...with issues!

Posted by SleepyLady on October 17, 2003 at 12:30:43:

I have several problems. I've been using CPAP for about three days, and while I dont pretend to think I will adjust overnight, I do have several problems that I cant seem to work out.

1) Chin Straps should be banned as cruel and unusual punishment. I have the standard black chinstrap with a round hole at the chin. This is driving me nuts, becuase getting it tight enough to keep my mouth closed makes my chubby chin poke through the hole, and honestly after a while it just hurts, so HELP on the chin strap problem.

2) I am using a ResMed Ultra Mirage mask, and it feels great around my nose and I have no problems with a seal even when sleeping on my side, but the piece that extends up to my forhead is rather a pain. It hits so high on my head that its almost in my hair, but if I adjust the angle to get it lower I have trouble with the seal at the top of my nose. Also, my forehead is so sore that I can barely stand to put the mask on to begin with.

I'm using a Respironics, RemStar Plus with the 360 degree rotating tube, a heated humidifier, and standard head gear for this mask. HELP!
