Chin strap? Most are too cutesy to be effective. Do you NEED one? If so, get one that works. I try to use one, but that is because I know after a great deal of experience that I generally need to use one since without it I tend to lose too much pressure from my mouth thus rendering the entire cpap ineffective.

Mask fit? From what you describe it seems you could make some adjustments and then use a headband to keep the leak from developing near the top of the mask. You should not be unduly sore or have unduly lasting red welts of any sort. If you do, the mask is probably just too tight and should still function effectively if you loosen it.
