I'm not sure I have full confidence in how the Spirit arrives at it's hypopnea index. I was concerned about all the hypopneas my Spirit was reporting. So I had the machine set to CPAP mode at my original prescribed pressure of 18. This is 4-5 higher than what the Spirit ussually keeps me at. How can I have hypopneas with THAT much air comeing my way, right? :) It made no difference in the hypopnea index the next day.

I pay a lot more attention to the apnea index. That one is simple to arrive at. No breathing for 10 seconds equals an apnea. A child with a stopwatch could figure that out.

As for it not reacting to hypopneas, I don't know about that. It reacts to something or else it wouldn't increase pressure when you need it. I think perhaps it doesn't PREVENT hypopneas as well as it should, but I'd take a hypopnea over an apnea any day and most days I wake up to 0.0 apnea index. It beats the 96 an hour I have without the machine.
