Although, Legionnaires Disease was spread by water borne microbes becoming air borne, it had occurred because pigeons or other birds defecated into the water. If you use clean water – ideally, you should use distilled water – this won’t happen.

Furthermore, the manufacturer of my CPAP/humidifier unit said that even if one used infected water, the infectious agents would not infect the patient. Of course, I don’t suggest putting this to the test.
