Ziggy,

The hypopneas could very well be causing your lack of stage 3/4 sleep, so you might want to consider not thinking of them as two different problems.

Discerning an apnea from a hypopnea from a mild case of UARS is a matter of how long the airway struggles or closes. ANY problems breathing at night can cause the same severity of daytime symptoms. I have what a doctor may call a very mild case of UARS, yet I can guarantee I feel worse than many people who cease breathing hundreds of times a night.

You can get an infection from a thumb tack or a chainsaw accident. Clearly, something is disturbing your sleep and preventing you from reaching restorative stages. Since we both have evidence of mild sleep-disordered breathing, it's not illogical to think that the answer lies somewhere in there.

Have you thought about using an AutoPAP?
