Mouth Breathers Last Hope Failure

Posted by LostHope on January 07, 2004 at 18:16:51:

OK! I was just reading through the forum and I'm getting the impression that the full face mask simply doesn't work for some people. Is this true? Air leekage or not. I am a mouth breather and went through hell coming to this conclusion after trying on every nose covered mask available. I finally settled on the nose pillows because the masks all leeked. I figured if the nose covered masks didn't work because of leekage than surely the full face mask wouldn't. So when I discovered that I was a mouth breather, to add to my proplems, I did everything possible to make the nose pillows work from wrapping my ex girlfriends underware around my head, no wonder she's my ex, and sanding off layers of skin from chin strap burn unable to get things working properly. It was with reluctance that I tried on the full face mask but to my surprise it actually fits, mind you its thight enough to scar me for life but there is no air leekage. THE ONLY PROPLEM IS IT DOESN'T WORK! After a year of blaming everything else ie; algeries I thought I had that the alergist now assures me I don't to needing glasses. I finally came to the conclusion that the full face mask doesn't work. Is this why so many mouth breathers are going to such effort with chin straps and lip seals? Have you used the full face mask and determined that it doesn't work? I have an appointment with my sleep doc January 21 although she hasn't been much help in the past. What is the alternative for someone with sleep apnea who is not over weight and can not get CPAP to work? Operations are only 80% likely to fail. Any ideas?
