I can accept that logical argument re breastfeeding and a predisposition toward sleep disordered breathing.
But I would still like to see some sort of observational study (as opposed to Palmer's lone observations) that shows breastfeeding has a protective effect in terms of sleep disordered breathing. I think the Wisconsin Cohort or the Sleep Heart Health Study would be ideally placed to answer that question.
As for the pregnancy question. Sleep Disordered Breathing may be quite common in expectant mothers regardless of their own breastfeeding status as a child. Again possible but where's the evidence?
Despite what Palmer seems to be saying on his website, craniofacial abnormalities are not the only factors that lead to sleep disordered breathing. In combination with other factors they may trigger the condition. But obesity and possible neurological causes remain as factors that are important in the development of SDB.
