By all means, ask the techs at the sleep clinic about trying different masks. If they have the Breeze nasal pillows, or the Nasalaire, be sure to ask for those specifically and try them.

Masks are probably the bain of compliance. There are some real horror stories out there. I read them and began my treatment insisting on the Nasalaire - I've had no problems.

If you have to use CPAP the rest of your life, don't settle for 2nd best or discomfort. Insist on trying the mask options.
