Posted by cptamedd on February 23, 2004 at 21:41:48:Help! I need some good information fast. I'm being discharged from the Army because I have sleep apnea. I am an activated Reservist who has been at Ft. Carson for about 11 months now. The elevation here is about 7500 feet. Before I got here I never had any signs or symptoms of OSA. After being here I few months I noticed I was extremely tired during the day and often woke up with headaches. After a little longer I noticed my thinking was foggy and I had trouble concentrating. Because of this I had a sleep study done. It showed I had moderately severe OSA with my longest cessation of breathing being 38 seconds. In order for me to get my military retirement (after 18 years of service) I have to show that this problem was incurred while I was on active duty. Like I said, I have had no problem with this prior to living at this altitude for a while and now OSA is ruining my life. Is there anyone out there who knows if living at high altitudes can cause sleep apnea in some people? I have to prove my case. Thanks!!!
