My 1999 vintage F&P HC-201 cannot use an inverter, and you cannot turn off the humidifier completely. However, I believe that these are not the case with the current model.
However, I believe that it's still true that if the reservior breaks at the hose connector - three have broken on me and it's always at the hose connector - there is no way to use the machine. Note that all three times were my fault, so don't fault the reservoir. Fortunately it happened at home, and I always have a spare on hand.
