I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a few years ago following some seriously bad day-time fatigue. I wasn't considered over weight, but two ear-nose-and-throat (ENTs) specialists claimed I had oversized tonsils (no medical explanation given though).
Recently after relocating, I noticed the cpap (or rather variable cpap - I have an autoset) was getting more uncomfortable and eventually decided to stop using it all together. With the cpap, my quality of sleep degraded to a point where I was getting pretty bad depression again... I figured it couldn't be any worse than this if I stopped using it for maybe a night or two just to see the effects. This was over a month ago! I used it maybe once or twice since then (being unsure), but it appears the apnea is gone. I can't say for sure though. I did have a GP look at my tonsils and he said they were 'miniscule - tiny - barely see them'.
I can't afford specialist consulation and/or another sleep study so it seems I'll hae to assume it's gone (hopefully for good). The questions I'm left with are... "what caused it in the first place?", "am I deceiving myself?", "how can I know for sure with the lack of funds for professional advice?"
