Here's my guess:

You had a cronic infection that caused swelling in your upper airway - mostly tonsils which caused your breathing problem. Infection gone, apnea mostly gone.

Or

You were having an alergic reaction to something in your previous location causing swelling and drainage resulting in breathing problems. Something in the carpet or airducts most likely, or maybe local plants/animals.

If you're sensitive to stuff like that it would be nice to know exactly what it is in case it happens again in 10 years. Replace your pillow, steam clean your carpets, and clean air ducts every year too.
