It's my understanding that it's very difficult to get Social Security disability. You have to be almost totally incapacitated and unable to do any work whatsoever. Was the surgery performed by Navy doctors? I would think you would get a service-related disability pension of some sort, but I have no experience with military. You might repost your question and include 'Question about military disability' in the subject line.

I think someone awhile back suggested talking to the chaplain for information on resources and navy procedures.
