It does take some adjusting to get the mask fitting just right where it's fairly secure. Once I get it just right, I mark the straps with indelible marker so I can put it back together quickly after washing. Taking the mask off after 3 hours on your first night is considered a success story.
Masks vs. nasal pillows is a very individual preference. If your DME will let you try them without charge, I would do it.
You need to have a heated humidifier, otherwise the air is icy and it will probably be very drying and give you other problems.
You're doing fine; just give it a little time. Many -- maybe most of us -- need to tweak things to get the best results.
