Help update

Posted by concerned wife on February 27, 2004 at 19:49:26:

Well, I am very happy to say that all my persuasion paid off and my husband saw the respiratory specialist last Friday. He saw the urgency in my husband's condition and has ordered an emergency sleep study, not until April 13 and prescribed an auto-Cpap right away. We met with the CPAP people, again after insisting he be seen the next day and we have set him up on the auto-CPAP machine. He has used it two nights, with a heated humidifier and a prescription for Flonase. His minimum setting is 7 and max is 20. He has his card installed but I don't know how to download the information. I did notice this morning that when he shut off his machine it was at 14.9 so I imagine it is doing it's job. My husband says he still has trouble sleeping but more from getting used to the mask than anything else. I think he sounds like he's sleeping like a baby. He has never been able to breathe through his mouth, but is handling the nose mask just fine. He still feels tired and his shoulder is still really aching him. He is being referred to an orthopedic surgeon in May. From reading the many posts on this website I believe he still feels tired because he has a lot of sleep to catch up with. I found out that there is a two year wait list for a Level III sleep study in our city, Winnipeg, Canada but there is a private sleep clinic that does Level I sleep studies in three weeks. They recommended my husband wait until April to have a Level III study especially given the fact that he has a machine.
I am feeling much more optimistic now he has his machine and he is no longer choking and gasping all night. The sound of the machine is like music to my ears compared to his sleep pattern, snoring and gasping.
