Posted by NCDreamin' on April 15, 2004 at 05:18:29:Following a sleep study, I started CPAP therapy the first of February using a REMStar Plus machine with a setting of 5. I have tried the Mirage and Ultra Mirage masks but didn't like the feeling of claustrophobia they gave me. I now am using an Adams Circuit mask but I can't say I am satisfied with it either. I have two problems:
1. Despite trying all the relaxation suggestions I have read about in the forums and in books on sleeping disorders, I do not seem to be able to go to sleep without a dose of Ambien (10mg). The problem is the Ambien does not keep me from waking up during the night, usually around 2:30 and then about every 30 minutes as I get more restless until I get up at 6 AM.
2. Many night--in my sleep--I take the mask off. Oftentimes I actually turn the CPCP machine off and it's not until I start waking up around 2:30, or before when my wife wakes up due to my gasping and snoring, that I realize the mask it off and put it back on.
With all these interruptions during the night, I am not sleeping much and most mornings I wake up as tired as I was when I went to bed the night before. Any suggestions on either or both of these problems would be greatly appreciated.
