Introduction

Howdee! You can call me HR, I suppose. It is a nickname, not a religious preference. ;)

In the 5hr 19min sleep test, I stopped breathing or shallow enough to be worthless - 337 times. The average is 63 times an hour; the longest I held my breath - 33 seconds. (I can only make it to 15secs when I am awake!) My awake O2 saturation level was 94%; my lowest in the study was 82%. On average, my body twitched 15 times an hour, but only 2 were hard enough to cause my sleep level to elevate.

In the 2nd one with the CPAP,sleeping O2 average was 97%, lowest it got was 90%. At setting 5, I only woke up 13x per hour but as the pressure was increased to 7, I started waking up over 36x an hour. Appearantly this is called Central Apnea (??).

On 3/25 I rec'd my CPAP (a ResMed S7 with HumidAire 2i). The mask is a Respironics Profile, I think.

I did not notice any difference until just recently. My daytime sleepiness dropped and when I wake up, I am actually awake and no longer faking it. I am still a night owl, but I find that when I have to get up earlier than usual, I am not groggy or zombied for an hour or more like I used to.

My partner has noticed a big change. For one, she says I am more alert for all of the day, not just parts of it. I also no longer trash the bed at night or kick her in my sleep. (honest, I was asleep!!) But after 14+ yrs of hearing me snore, SHE is the one to not get good enough sleep now. She says she keeps waking up to make sure I am alive, since she can't hear me breath any more. My snoring never bothered her after the first 6 mos or so.

I got used to it quicker than I thought I would. The night at the clinic was awful. I don't breathe through my mouth except when on my back. Due to other health issues, I cannot wear the chin strap. I have to sleep on my side anyway so it's not a problem.

Well, rambled long enough.

Thank you for the information before and now during!

HR
