You express your opinion, but it appears it is not based on facts. Why do you think it is important to empty and dry your unit?
even if there were organisms growing in the unit, which there is none, there would be no way for bacteria to make their way to your lungs with the air.
In either a passive or heated system, it is VAPOR that is inhaled. Bacteria cannot attach to the vapor molecules.
It is possible in the cold air humidifiers for bacteria to attach to water droplets and be blown out, but not in hot or or passive humidifiers.
Another point is that bacteria are ubiquitous in our environment and the likelihood of any in the water, even if they are there, is very remote.
