Most CPAPs have a "ramp." A ramp is exctly what you think it is. It will start at a much lower pressure than your prescription and gradually increase to full pressure. In this manner, you should be able to fall asleep before the full pressure kicks in. Once asleep, your body will most likely know exactly what to do. If not, then you can consider BiPAP.
