Anyway: I know some people definitely are opposed to using that micropore tape to tape your mouth closed in an effort to stop forced air from leaking out of the mouth when on Cpap.
I've done it before, but not in a while. But I did it last night again. I did it even though no one has ever told me at a titration that I was mouth breathing. But I aave not experienced any relief from Cpap, so I thought I'd give it a try to see if I felt any better.
Well, I woke up in the middle of the night to the sensation of air whistling out of the corners of my mouth, pushing past the corners of the tape. The tape was also wet, I imagine because I was drooling on it!
So, I guess I DO mouth breathe. But, when you tape your mouth closed and the air STILL escapes, what then? Duct tape? Ha!
And, yes, I have tried chin straps, again -- out of curiosity, and did not feel any less exhausted when I awoke than I do when I dont use Cpap.
I am now thinking of taking a handkerchief, folding it, covering my mouth with it, and then holding it in place with one of those elasticized cotton headbands that women wear.
One aside -- I felt worse today, after using Cpap with my mouth taped, than I do without Cpap -- I guess an incorrect amount of pressure (since some of it escaped), is better than NO pressure.....
