What I've done is use a 4 inch wide ace bandage cut to fit my head..over the mask:^) It's stretchy, and can be moved to a comfortable position. It pulls just enough on my lips to keep me from mouth breathing. I've tried EVERYthing else. Full face masks, tape,(and got the same result you did with it...ick!) other chin straps, etc.
