Sorry I took so long to reply...I fit it totally over my lips, from under my nose to the chin. If I only have it on my chin, air escapes out of my mouth. I tried a few chin straps, and they were so rigid, that I couldn't keep them over my lips and on my head at the same time LOL The ace bandage is so stretchy, and snug at the same time, so it fits over the back of my head at an angle, and stays put. It works great. I'm not sure I'll be able to use this during a sleep study though with all the wires attached to my face, and I'm a little worried how I'll sleep then...
