Posted by Dont Feel Bad on July 27, 2004 at 16:53:16:I have been wondering what other people have/had for symptoms, some information, and how the treatment is helping.
I am overweight, at 280 lbs now, but weighed in at 200 lbs with little body fat 8 years ago.
I am 38 yr old Male
Doctor said I have oversized tonsils, my tongue is to far back, the roof (palate) of my mouth is too soft, and that my weight is not much of a factor.
I have moderate high blood pressure, and the doctor said my heart is taking a beating during sleep. Here are my results:
736 obstructive sleep apneas and 2 central apneas with longest duration of 69 seconds (6.5 hr testing period.)
Overall apnea-hypopnea index in the supine position was 99.2 per hour and 78.3 in REM sleep.
Blood oxygen saturation of 89.6% dropped to 60.0% during the repertory events.
Overall arousal index of 61.2 per hour (normal is <5 per hour)
Stage 1 sleep 7.3% - normal is 5.71%
Stage II sleep 77.3% - normal is 56.89%
Stage III sleep 6.03% - normal is 5.67%
Stage IV sleep 0.1% - normal is 6.79%
REM 9% - normal is 23.47
Now with the CPAP set to 13 I can sleep for hours at a time, I don’t get night sweats, I don’t roll around tearing up the bed, and I don’t fall asleep during the day as much, but I don’t feel much more energy, not loosing weight. BUT I DON’T SNORE ANY MORE!Next step according to the doctor is to move the tongue forward, remove the tonsils, widen the airway, and re-shape the roof of my mouth, sounds like fun eh?
Feel free to share your symptoms, measurements, success, etc…
