A pressure that is higher than you need to maintain an open airway can cause central apneas and can cause frequent arousals. There is no set amount of "extra pressure" that will cause this - it varies from person to person.

Minimum pressures are generally 3-4 cm. We start titrations at 5 cm, unless the patient needs more pressure to be comfortable.
